“Ella, Libre” (translates from Spanish to English as” free her" or” free she”) and is the first work in a new series called BIRD SET FREE and forms part of my response to the profound problem women in Australia are facing. I see this work, unashamedly, as feminist.
We are facing a deep and disturbing culture of misogyny, ageism and violence against women…one that should be improving but only appears to be becoming more entrenched. I fear for my baby girl’s future in a world where women still struggle to feel safe, even in their own homes, and where we become increasingly unseen and undervalued as we age. My dream is for our daughters and their daughters to live without limitation or fear.
